On March 13, 2009 a set of documents, photos and audio recordings were posted on WikiLeaks.org that demonstrated that the Ontario Progressive Conservative Campus Association (OPCCA) was conducting workshops on university campuses to train campus Conservatives to infiltrate student unions, dismantle Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs) and siphon student money for partisan organizing.
This wasn’t the first time that the campus Tories had been caught trying to infiltrate student unions. Back in 2002, the University of Western Ontario Gazette broke a story about an email intercepted by then OPCCA President Adam Daifallah. In the email, Daifallah revealed the existence of a “Millennium Leadership Fund” that was used to fund candidates in student union elections [on most campuses such donations would be a gross violation of the rules. Being caught red handed, some of the candidates were forced to admit receiving secret funding.
A blog has emerged explaining who is behind the attacks against the Canadian Federation of Students at the University of Western Ontario (added Nov. 2009).
